Guides, FAQs, and troubleshooting for Phone Cleaner: Free Storage
The app scans your photo library and compares file metadata (size, date, dimensions) and visual content to find exact duplicates. Photos are grouped together so you can easily pick the best version and safely remove the rest. The original is always kept unless you choose otherwise.
Similar photos are images that look visually alike, such as burst shots, slightly different angles, or near-identical selfies. The app uses on-device image analysis to group them together, making it easy to keep your best shot and clean up the rest. This is different from duplicates, which are exact copies of the same file.
No. The app never deletes anything without your explicit confirmation. Every action requires you to review items first and then confirm the deletion through an iOS system prompt. You are always in full control of what stays and what goes.
Yes. Deleted photos and videos are moved to the "Recently Deleted" album in your iPhone's Photos app, where they remain recoverable for up to 30 days. For contacts, we recommend using the in-app backup feature before merging or deleting, since contact deletions from the address book are permanent.
The app scans your address book for contacts with matching or similar names, phone numbers, or email addresses. Detected duplicates are grouped so you can preview each match, choose which information to keep, and merge them into a single clean entry. You can also back up your contacts before making changes.
Absolutely. All processing happens entirely on your device. Your photos, contacts, and personal data are never uploaded to any server. We do not collect, store, or share your personal information. The app only accesses data you explicitly grant permission for, and nothing ever leaves your iPhone.
The compression feature converts your photos and videos to more efficient formats (HEIF for images, HEVC for videos) to free up storage space without deleting anything. You can choose from three quality levels: High Quality (minimal visual difference), Balanced (good quality with good savings), or Max Savings (maximum space freed). The original is replaced with the smaller version while preserving the creation date and location data.
The app scans your photo library and sorts items by file size, showing you the largest photos and videos first. This makes it easy to spot space-hogging files like long videos or high-resolution images that you may no longer need. You can review each item and decide whether to keep or delete it.
Swipe lets you browse your photos month by month in a fun, Tinder-style interface. Swipe right to keep a photo, swipe left to mark it for deletion. When you are done reviewing, all the photos you swiped left are moved to a trash bin where you can review them one last time before confirming the deletion.
Connect your Gmail account and the app will analyze your inbox to find newsletters, promotions, and other bulk emails that take up space. You can review what was found and delete unwanted emails in bulk. Your Gmail credentials are handled securely through Google sign-in and the app never stores your email password.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your iPhone Settings: go to Settings > your name > Subscriptions, then tap Phone Cleaner. You can also restore previous purchases from the app's Settings screen by tapping "Restore Purchases." Subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple and will renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
The app requests access to your Photo Library (to scan, compress, and delete photos/videos) and Contacts (to find and merge duplicates). These permissions are requested individually the first time you use each feature, and you can change them at any time in your iPhone Settings under Privacy. For email cleaning, the app uses Google Sign-In to securely access your Gmail account.
